Waterparks in Tenerife

When it comes to waterparks in Tenerife, the island offers actually some of the best waterparks in Europe and in the world. Year after year the waterparks of the island are remembered in the list of the ones to be visited.

One of the reasons of this popularity is the weather. The favorable climate of the island, especially in the south, where some of those waterparks in Tenerife are located (Siam Park, Aqualand and Parque Maritimo), attracts every year more and more visitors from Spain, Europe and other parts of the globe. Due to that, the waterparks in Tenerife are constantly improving their facilities and services, and also to ensure they get their share of the market or don’t lose to their competitors.

We, the visitors, are the ones that benefit from that. We have huge waterparks in Tenerife, like Siam Park Tenerife and Aqualand, with excellent facilities, and don’t need to feel obliged to go in only one of them out of loyalty or so. That means that when you visit Tenerife, or if you are from there, don’t miss the chance to enjoy each of them – you won’t regret. Also consider that each of those waterparks in Tenerife have their own uniqueness. For instance one park might be more suitable for families or for young people looking for adrenaline; another might be quieter for a relaxing day; and so on.

Due to the demand in all of them, you will not have any issue to reach those waterparks in Tenerife. Siam Park and Aqualand, for instance, have a bus service with few stops in the south of the island. The hotels also contribute to that, since they often provide a transfer service (paid or not) to the attractions of Tenerife, and the public transport network (ran by the company TITSA) is very good to and from those locations of the four waterparks in Tenerife (Aqualand, Siam Park Tenerife, Lago Martianez and Parque Maritimo Santa Cruz).

Best Waterparks in Tenerife

Below we list the major waterparks in Tenerife, not in a specific order, but that can help you deciding which one is the most suitable for you, according to budget, location or simply the mood you have to enjoy the day in pool.

Parque Maritimo Cesar Manrique in Santa Cruz

Parque Maritimo Cesar Manrique is an open space, of about 22.000 square meters of saltwater pools, located in the capital of Tenerife, Santa Cruz. It is a posthumous work of the well-known artist Cesar Manrique, from the island of Lanzarote, where it is noticeable the mix of the elements from the volcanic nature and beauty of the buildings of the park, something similar to what has been applied at another of the waterparks in Tenerife, Costa Martianez or Lago Martianez, located in Puerto de la Cruz.

The Parque Maritimo Santa Cruz has everything the visitors expect in such a place, like restaurant / bars, toilets, showers, hammocks, hot springs Jacuzzi, large facilities for groups and events, children’s play areas, etc. It is located next to the Palmetum and close to the Auditorio de Tenerife.

Prices are quite reasonable (about € 2,50 for adults and € 1,50 for children  3 to 12 and seniors over 65) and the park is open from Monday till Sunday, from 10 to 18hrs.

Aqualand  Tenerife (former Octopus)

Aqualand is our favourite choice of waterparks in Tenerife for families. Group Aspro (owners of the Aqualand and Jungle Park) has invested quite a bit in the past years to improve the facilities, number of attractions and the comfort of the visitors. The result is a fantastic waterpark in Tenerife, former Octopus is a gigantic place where visitors from all ages can spend a relaxing day of fun.

There you can see waterfalls, water slides for different ages, terraces for sun bathing, amusement spots for babies and younger kids (such as the Mini Park), restaurants, bars, kiosks, etc.

But the main attraction of the park is without a question the Aqualand Dolphin Show, one of the best anywhere else. We loved this attraction, which helps this to be one of the best waterparks in Tenerife.

Tenerife Travel Secret

The Dolphin Show at the Aqualand Tenerife is surely the best part of the park. It is amazing the interaction of these beautiful and charismatic animals with the public in general and the instructors. It was also a great idea to have the Dolphin show in the waterpark as an attraction, as it feels great to watch the show and right after jump in another pool of the park.

The park is open the whole year from 10 to 17hrs (18hrs in July and August), and there’s a free shuttle service from Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos.

The prices vary, and an adult pays around € 25 for a single entrance, but don’t forget that you have discounts when purchasing tickets to Jungle Park also, as well as children and seniors, who have a lower rate.

Siam Park Tenerife

This is a fantastic place and one of the best waterparks in the world (in fact it was elected the best waterpark in the world by Tripadvisor in 2014 and 2015).

Actually, in the end of the day you will feel that one day was not enough, considering the quantity of attractions – all of which with their own characteristics.

Tenerife Travel Secret

The park was elected in 2015 as the best waterpark in the world by the reputable Trip Advisor Travellers Choice award. Only this award can give the visitors an idea of what they should expect in this huge waterpark located in the south of the island.

The park has a lot of pools, fantastic slides, a huge pool with artificial wave – the largest wave in the world - , restaurants, cafes.

Siam Park Tenerife is all decorated with an oriental (Thai) theme, which explains the name of the park.

Just like with Aqualand, there’s a free bus service bringing you from Los Cristianos, Playa de Las Americas and Costa Adeje to the park.

The park is open from 10 to 17hrs (from 9:30 to 18hrs during summer) and prices are around € 34 (adults) and € 23 for children.

Costa Martianez - El Lago Martianez

Costa Martianez, also known as Lago Martianez or Lido Martianez, is a complex of seawater pools and an open air museum, located in the north of Tenerife, in the town of Puerto de La Cruz.

The park was developed by, among other great artists, the artist from Lanzarote, Cesar Manrique. It has so many beautiful sculptures around, that you will feel amused by the park and amazed by the decoration.

There you will also find great facilities and the prices are also very reasonable – about € 5,50 adult and € 2,50 for children.

Which one is the Best Waterpark in Tenerife?

That’s a very difficult question to be answered, and it really depends on the expectation of the visitor. Not that we want to be over the fence with this question, but for instance we might have a different opinion of what’s best, from visitors from the Nordic countries.

There are reputable companies that rate the parks based on several factors, such as facilities, number of visitors, etc., but again the opinions might vary from one another.

Trip Advisor has the Travellers’ Choice awards, which elected again Siam Park Tenerife the best waterpark in the world. Well deserved, and only with that you can have an idea of how amazing this park is. There are many great attractions and you will not feel disappointed – quite the contrary, you can go there with big expectations.

On the other hand, we find the Aqualand has a fantastic potential for families. Especially for us, with a small kid. The facilities are getting better and bigger every day, just as the number of attractions, and the Dolphin show is the king of the park. It is great to watch one of the greatest Dolphin Shows and just after go to the pool again. And for those visitors and locals that used to visit the former park called Octopus, we can just say that the place has change a lot… really a lot.

But if you want to go to a more low profile park, quieter, to relax by the pool, Lago Martianez and Parque Maritimo are good choices also. Since they were designed by, among others, the artist Cesar Manrique, you might spend some time just appreciating the sculptures of Lago Martianez. But in those cases I must say that the weather is more in favor of Parque Maritimo.

The prices of Siam Park / Aqualand also diverge a lot from El Lago Martianez / Parque Maritimo, so the budget here, in case you can’t spend that much money, might filter your choice.  On the other hand, even if you don’t have a problem to spend more money, we know many people that would rather go to Martianez than to Siam Park. Again, just a question of taste.

So, in our humble opinion, if you have the chance to spend several days in Tenerife, and don’t have a problem with the budget, why not making a turn and visit 2 or 3 of the waterparks in Tenerife, to take your own conclusions? If you have the chance, even the 4 of them… Then we’d be thrilled to receive your top choice and comments, to be shared with our visitors.
