Gran Oasis Resort
...a Familiar Resort Close to Siam Park

The hotel Gran Oasis Resort has opened in 2000 and its logo is a sunflower which represents the friendliness of its staff towards their guests.

The hotel’s reception was very friendly and thoughtful. In terms of decoration, the reception evokes the feeling of being in a paradise with palm trees in the prints on the upholstery of the sofas and armchairs. Greens, yellows and light browns mix together in harmony, and there is lively music.

Tenerife Travel Secret

While I waited for Alejandro (the person in charge of telling me all the secrets of this and the other hotels in the group), I couldn’t help focusing on a musical ensemble made up of four monkeys – yes - four very happy monkeys who dance and play their musical instruments. One plays the bongos, two play the guitar and the other the saxophone. If you have to wait at reception, there’s no doubt you won’t be able to miss your four unusual companions. If you want to take a photo with these new ‘friends’, you can do so comfortably sitting on any of the sofas which are in front of them.

There is free wifi throughout the complex for guests of the hotel (each apartment gets 500mb for free).

The Gran Oasis Resort is a modern tourist complex located in the beat area in the south of Tenerife, between Playa de las Américas and los Cristianos, with fantastic views towards the Las Américas golf course and the sea.

Communal Areas at Gran Oasis Resort

In the reception area of Gran Oasis Resort, which is open 24 hours a day, there is free wifi.

The restaurant is connected to the reception and has a large, light terrace which leads to the swimming pool area.

There are three swimming pools with heated water in the winter. Two of them are for adults and one is specifically for children. There is a giant chess set near the pool to entertain you.

The Oasis is the main pool bar, where they serve a buffet-style lunch with small snacks made from fresh products and salads, although they also offer the option of ordering a la carte. At the Oasis you can eat without having to be formally dressed. In fact you can eat as soon as you’ve got out of the pool just dressed in your swimming costume. The trellised area by the pool can fit 80 to 100 diners.

On stage in the trellised area they put on shows at night, and you can see everything from both above and below (leaving the hammocks).

A small wooden structure with palm leaves is next to the large central pool, and this is the Chiringuito where you can enjoy the most delicious sandwiches without leaving the relaxation which your hammock offers.

In the Veranda restaurant, breakfast, lunch and themed dinners (Italian, Oriental, Mexican and local) are served in the form of an extensive buffet. You can also try freshly-cooked food at the Show-cooking. You can turn up to the restaurant in informal clothes (such as shorts and t-shirt).

Tenerife Travel Secret

Guests on an all-inclusive package have breakfast, lunch and dinner (even the themed ones) as a buffet in the Veranda restaurant. From 11am to 12:30pm and from 4pm to 6pm snacks are also available at the Oasis pool bar and the Chiringuito (the timings vary according to whether it is winter or summer season). Lunch can also be eaten at the pool bar. The drinks which are included are water, soft drinks, beer and some other alcoholic drinks.

Lastly if you want to treat yourself, don’t fail to visit the ‘Oh La La’ ice-cream shop, with ‘Carte D’Or’ ice-creams, lollips, cakes, milkshakes, fresh juices, waffles, tea and coffee.

There is a children’s entertainment area with games and a corner with a number of computers connected to the internet.

The miniclub area of Gran Oasis Resort is the largest and best of all the many miniclubs which I’ve seen in Tenerife. The Play Hotel, which is what the miniclub is called, is a replica of the hotel reception, with its guest service area, signposted bathrooms, theatre, etc. This is a part of the hotel which gives them total privacy for their childish activities, as well as being enclosed so that the children cannot leave the area.

The Happy Holidays – Be Happy group are the ones who run the children’s activities, and although clearly they are the children’s entertainers they are not responsible for looking after them. Children under the age of 5 or 6 must be accompanied by their parents or guardians. There are also activities especially for the children at the MiniDisco.

On Mondays, the whole team of Gran Oasis Resort is present at a Welcome Meeting for the adults when they explain to the guests the plan for the week’s sporting activities (aerobics, aqua aerobics, waterpolo, gym and various competitions) and evening entertainment (mini-disco, bingo, shows and live music).

There is a room where you can leave your suitcases at reception if you need to stay at the hotel later than you have to check-out. You can still use some bathrooms with showers and use the pool.

Among the bad luck I had on the morning when I visited the Gran Oasis Resort and the Green Garden Resort, it poured with rain (just the day before and again that afternoon it was magnificent weather, but anyway … next time I go the weather will be better :) ).

Apartments and Rooms at Gran Oasis Resort

The accommodation at Gran Oasis Resort is made up of 206 apartments, all of which are duplexes, and two of them are adapted for people with mobility difficulties.

In general, the two bedrooms are on one floor and you go upstairs to enjoy the terrace and solarium.

The one bedroom duplexes have a fully-equipped kitchen and living/dining room upstairs, decorated with bamboo furniture, and have a telephone, air conditioning, 32” plasma tv and a furnished balcony. On the lower level you will find the bedroom with 2 beds, ceiling fan, a terrace and a bathroom complete with a bathtub. The maximum capacity of the one-bedroom apartments is 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children (the third and fourth people sleep on an extra bed). If you have children with you, the hotel puts up a safety gate to avoid accidents.

The apartments, and in particular the bedrooms, are usually decorated with sunflowers. This simple but attractive flower represents the hotel, and is in fact in its logo, and what it tries to get across is the friendliness of the staff.

The one bedroom deluxe suites are located in the most special part of the hotel, from where you can enjoy the best views of the Las Américas golf course, the sea and the island of Gomera. They have been decorated especially to offer the most luxury and comfort during your stay, as well as including everything described above for the one bedroom duplexes.

The apartments which have been adapted for disabled people have everything which their guests need for comfort and enjoyment, but the only difference is that they are completely on one floor.

The two bedroom apartments include a fully-equipped kitchen, a large living/dining room with a telephone, air conditioning, a 32” plasma tv, 2 bedrooms with 2 beds in each, a ceiling fan in the main bedroom and a furnished balcony, as well as a bathroom complete with bathtub and hairdryer. The maximum capacity of the apartments is 6 adults or 4 adults and 2 children (the fifth and sixth people sleep on an extra bed).

I was also able to see a two bedroom apartment suite with Solarium completely on one floor with very clean, elegant decoration. It includes a fully-fitted kitchen, a large living/dining room with a telephone, air conditioning, 32” plasma television, two bathrooms, two independent bedrooms (with a ceiling fan in the main bedroom) and a furnished balcony. The terrace with solarium is very large (70m²) and includes two canopies at the sides, a table, chairs, deck chairs and even a shower to refresh yourself.

These apartments are found in the highest part of the complex, so from the privileged spot on the terrace you will have some spectacular views of Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas, the Playa de Las Américas golf course and the sea. The maximum capacity of these apartments is 5 adults or 4 adults and 2 children (the fifth and sixth people sleep on an extra bed).

One thing to bear in mind is that the owner was the official designer of the whole complex. From the bamboo walls to the printed bedspreads, canopies and curtains, everything evokes a holiday feeling of relaxation and tranquility.

Extra Services and Facilities

There is a small massage room offering a wide range of massages and beauty treatments, as well as a coin-operated laundry, a well-equipped gym, a games room with internet, a small multi-purpose sports court near the MiniClub area, and a supermarket which is open every day.

Tenerife Travel Secret

The IGS Ingenieros group manages the chain and, in order to maintain the quality and appearance of the resort, each year they refurbish or add to the facilities. For example, in 2013 they installed air conditioning in half of the resort, and they planned to do so in the rest of the apartments in 2014. They work as a community of owners who look after every detail at the complex.

In winter the majority of the visitors come from Scandinavia, and in summer they are mostly English who are returning to the island and the resort, something which I understand perfectly.

The complex has a large car park which costs €3 per day per car. If you hire a car through the hotel with Tropic Rent a Car then parking is free.

Monkey Beach bar can be used by guests of the Gran Oasis Resort and the Green Garden Resort and can be booked the day before at reception in the respective hotel.

Five times per day (except Sundays) a minibus drives from the Oasis and Green hotels to the coastal area of Los Cristianos and back again. The first bus of the day (at 14:00) goes to the Siam Park waterpark, and the bus which brings you back from there is at 5pm in the winter and 6pm in the summer.

The bus service will give you a ride to and from the Centro Comercial Safari (known as the Golden Mile of southern Tenerife) and Monkey Beach (three times, the first of which leaves at around 10:30am and arrives at the destination at around 11am, with various stops along the way).

Final Comments from the Authors

What bad luck I had at this hotel L and clearly it wasn’t because of the hotel or the staff there, but rather the weather. There is an almost exact theory (meteorologically speaking) that in southern Tenerife it only rains on 15-20 days per year, and for that reason it’s very dry and a desirable holiday destination. But that day (well, only that morning, because when I left in the afternoon the sun came out) that I visited the Gran Oasis Resort it rained an incredible amount (it also snowed lightly on the tops of the mountains in the south of the island, which never happens). This didn’t stop Alejandro and me enjoying a tour around the resort’s facilities though (nor the many guests who I saw making use of the swimming pools, even when it was raining). Even like that, with the weather as it was, I left with a great impression of the Gran Oasis Resort, so with good weather it would have been spectacular!!!

It is one of the best family hotels which we at Tenerife Travel Secrets have visited and proof of that is that recently it was awarded the sought-after title of Best Family Hotel in the Canaries on Trip Advisor in 2013.

If you want a family resort, but something a bit more peaceful and inside the property of Golf Las Américas golf course, then we recommend that you visit our page about the Green Garden Resort. If you want exclusivity and the feeling of being the king of paradise, we invite you to visit Royal Garden Villas.
